First, Your Consultation
Everyone is unique in their own way. And everyone’s face is different, as well. To discover your unique facial characteristics, Dr. Perry will closely examine your nose and face, outlining his treatment goals and recommendations. During this initial consultation, Dr. Perry will gather a thorough medical history and describe every aspect of the Rhinoplasty, including anesthesia, where the surgery will be performed and the procedure’s costs.
You will find Dr. Perry’s treatment prices to be competitive with those of other cosmetic and reconstructive surgeons. Some surgeries are partially or fully covered by health insurance. For example, your insurance may cover surgery that improves or corrects nasal function; however, purely “cosmetic” procedures are generally not covered. Dr. Perry’s staff will work with your insurance company to determine what’s covered by your particular plan.
Your Surgery
During your surgery, Dr. Perry makes incisions to access the nose’s bone and cartilage support system. Most of these incisions are made inside the nose, where they cannot be seen. In some cases, he’ll make an incision in the area of skin that separates the nostrils. Next, certain areas of the underlying bone and cartilage are added to, removed or repositioned to create a newly shaped structure. Dr. Perry then re-drapes the external skin and tissues over this new structure and closes the incisions.
At the end of the operation, a cast is applied to the outside of the nose for protection and splints are placed inside the nose to help it retain its new shape during healing. The nasal cast and splints remain in place for one week. To ensure optimal comfort during recuperation, Dr. Perry does not use nasal packing (absorbent material placed inside the nose to stop bleeding) during the healing process.
Dr. Perry performs all nasal surgeries with the assistance of a board-certified anesthesiologist and a nurse anesthetist. Most patients are able to return home one to three hours after the procedure.
Expectations & Post-Surgery Procedure
After surgery, your face will feel swollen or bruised, which often can be reduced using cold compresses. Dr. Perry may prescribe pain medication. He’ll also ask that you follow a specific set of instructions to help ensure a speedy recovery.
Dr. Perry requires several post-surgery follow-up visits to make sure you are healing properly. He usually sees patients one week after surgery to remove the nasal cast and splints. At this time, once the nasal cast has been removed, you’ll usually see the difference in your nose’s appearance. Then, Dr. Perry will want to see you every couple of weeks for the next month. Normally, the swelling over your nose will slowly resolve over the next three to six months.
